Sports Massage for Runners and Gym-Goers: When and Why to Book

From early-morning runs in Aravalli Biodiversity Park to heavy leg days at the gym, a lot of people in Gurugram and Delhi train hard. Sports therapy is designed for bodies that work.
What sports massage is
Sports massage combines techniques from deep tissue and stretching, focused on the muscle groups you use most. Your therapist will ask what training you do, then work on those areas — calves, hamstrings and hips for runners; shoulders, back and quads for lifters.
It can be firm, but it's always adjusted to you.
What people use it for
- Easing tight, heavy muscles after hard sessions
- Feeling looser and more mobile before a race or competition
- A regular "maintenance" session during a training block
- Recovering from long travel before an event
It isn't a replacement for physiotherapy if you have an injury. If something is swollen, sharply painful or getting worse, see a physio or doctor first.
When to book around training
- 2–4 days before a race or big event: a lighter session, so you feel fresh rather than sore.
- 24–72 hours after a race or very hard session: once the initial soreness eases, a recovery massage can feel great.
- During normal training weeks: every two to four weeks is a common rhythm.
- Avoid deep work the day before a race. Your muscles may feel tender the next day.
What to tell your therapist
- Your sport and how often you train
- Any race or event coming up
- Areas that feel tight or "different" on one side
- Any past injuries
After your session
- Drink water and eat a proper meal.
- Skip intense training for the rest of the day. An easy walk is fine.
- Expect mild soreness for a day after firm work, like after a good workout.

Combining it with stretching
If you're very stiff through the hips and hamstrings, Thai massage — with its assisted stretching — can be a good alternative or addition.
Sports therapy is available at all three Angkasa outlets: GK-1, Sector 29 and Golf Course Road.
