Your First Spa Visit: A Step-by-Step Guide

If you've never had a professional massage, it's normal to feel a little unsure. What do I wear? Do I talk? What if I don't like the pressure? This guide walks you through it, step by step.
1. Booking
Call or WhatsApp your nearest outlet. Mention:
- That it's your first visit
- What you'd like to feel — relaxed, less stiff, refreshed
- Any health conditions, injuries, allergies or pregnancy
- If you'd prefer a specific therapist
If you don't know which massage to choose, a 60-minute Swedish massage is the ideal first session. Our which massage guide explains the options.
2. Before you arrive
- Eat lightly an hour or two before.
- Shower if you can; it helps you feel comfortable.
- Leave jewellery and valuables at home.
- Arrive 10 minutes early. Rushing in late eats into your session and your calm.
3. Consultation
You'll fill in a short form and have a quick chat about pressure and focus areas. This is the moment to mention anything — "my right shoulder is stiff", "please avoid my feet", "I'm ticklish on my back."
4. Undressing and privacy
Your therapist will leave the room while you change. For oil massages you'll be given disposable underwear, and you lie under a sheet or towel. Only the area being massaged is uncovered at any time. You can keep more on if you prefer — just tell us.
For Thai, Shiatsu and reflexology, you stay in loose clothing.
5. During the massage
- Breathe slowly and let your body sink into the bed.
- Talk if you want to; silence is fine too. Most people prefer quiet.
- Speak up about pressure. "A bit firmer" or "softer please" is all it takes. See our pressure guide.
- If anything feels uncomfortable — physically or otherwise — you can stop the session at any time.
6. After the massage
- Get up slowly. You may feel light-headed.
- Drink water.
- Use the steam and shower if you like, then rest for a few minutes.
- Keep the rest of your day calm if you can.
